Why do people say "just get over it" to abusive relationships?
I mean, yeah, shows a lack of empathy and definitely paints the person as someone who would abuse others, but why? We go through hell without realizing until it's too late, get permanent scars (both physical and mental), lose the ability to trust, and we're told that we're the ones who are wrong. We need to change. We need to just forgive the other person and make them feel better.
Nah. Not how that works. Therapy only does so much. Forgiveness is not automatic. Damaged people are always going to have some damage. Trust will never be the same. So no. We can't just "get over it." We get to struggle every day.
So, if you see someone that wants nothing to do with people, there's probably a good reason. Don't be an armchair therapist, let them be.
