Being able to let go of certain dreams can actually be liberating, like losing a hundred pounds of dead weight.

My grandmother said something similar a number of years back when it was all soul crushing struggle. Nobody offered help, but lots of people told me I should give up . Consequently, I’m achieving the thing they implied I wouldn’t accomplish.
I think.. when you have a dream it’s important to be real with yourself about the skills and hardship that will come with pursuing it. Over and over you’ll have to ask yourself if it’s worth the hardship and if you genuinely have the skill set necessary. Sometimes it’s not Worth all the suffering or you find out that the skills aren’t coming together like you thought they would and that’s OK. Sometimes it’s OK to reevaluate what you want out of life and wanting less pain is understandable.
