There’s such a sad line between being useful and being used.

Valerian · 61-69, M
It's an emotional line. Where you're happy to help someone and you feel worthwhile giving of yourself!

Absolutely there's no fault in that, it's commendable!

Where comes the rub is the person you are helping, or the other that should be helping this person, backs away from their duties and you progressively wind up with much more "helping" than you expect and a guilt trip trapping you, if you do anything else or try to back away!

HELPER'S DIALOGUE:

Sure I can help!
Tomorrow also?
Again, do you need me?
Yes, I can come by, if you want.
I'm busy now, but I can fit you in later.
No! Not today, I've had plans for today.
I'm sorry, please don't cry!
Yes, I care, I'll come afterwards.
But I can't put it off, it's paid for.
Yes, I can get a refund. Don't cry!

It's easy to see that, if a person looks for you more often when they need to rather than your company it's plain to see.
being useful is helping.. being used is being taken advantage of
