I’m a Brit, happy and proud to be one. But I really like Americans too so I don’t understand why this nonsense is happening.

Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
I pretty much replied to that post much the same things you posted here. I’m American and I generally like Brits - most of the ones I’ve met here have been nice - but I acknowledged that I sometimes see American-bashing here, and also acknowledge that there is much Brit-bashing going the other way. It’s important not to judge a whole nation for the sins of a shitty few - no matter what your nationality. Always remember that.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@Ambroseguy80 i do remember that. Im asking others to do so, as are you.

I skip those posts, because people matter, not where they're from
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
Don’t let this crap stir you up.

The vast majority of the time Brits and Americans get on great.

I’ve worked with Americans either on exchange or during my time on exercise in Nevada and we got along great. They liked the way we treated their exchange aircrew and as a result they spared no expense on us treating us to a few nights in Vegas.

They were real Americans, good guys who knew their job and did it well. And sure there was competitive banter but that’s all. Some of the Americans here don’t stand up to those people, and don’t count.

Ignore the trolls. They are a noisy minority.

Lacemaker · 41-45, F
I ignore those posts.

It starts as pure trolling and then the vitriol pours out when like-minded people join in and retaliate backwards and forwards, or some nice people get understandably upset.

The world makes SW go round 24/7. It's great we can come on here any time of day and meet people from all over the globe.
It doesn't matter where we're from. We learn from each other, support each other, have fun and mostly treat each other with respect.

And by the way, I'm a Brit and I think you Yanks are great 😉🇬🇧🇺🇸
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@Lacemaker im a Brit!
Lacemaker · 41-45, F
@RubySoo Congratulations!
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@Lacemaker lol. I clarified because in your reply you said
"I think you Yanks are great"
I was just pointing out im not a Yank....lol.

I don't judge people by nationality. I get along with most people here. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings in any way.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@SweetMae you didnt hurt my feeling at all Mae. 🤗
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@questionWeaver No, I did not.
SweetMae · 70-79, F

As a Brit who in the past spent a lot of time in the USA I have a huge number of USA friends on here, on Facebook, Twitter, Wordpress, IRL ... We're all the same in most ways when we actually start to be open minded.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@OldBrit of course. X

I've got quite a few British friends on here. I am an American and I love British folks. I have never had one bad thing to say about that nationality. We respect each other.

You are a lovely sensitive person, and we wouldn't change you for all the world, but you are are not only sensitive, you are also very smart and you are right to call people out on this.

Personally I feel that there's no need for competition, each is a different culture and each has good and bad aspects.. but sigh, yes I've seen the kinds of things you are talking about..

My feeling is that those who shout loudest about another race, culture or country are those who know least about that race/culture/country... so they speak from pure ignorance.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@Adaydreambeliever thank you lovely lady x
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@Adaydreambeliever @RubySoo

I'm reminded of Orwell's thoughts on the topic...

By ‘nationalism’ I mean first of all the habit of assuming that human beings can be classified like insects and that whole blocks of millions or tens of millions of people can be confidently labelled ‘good’ or ‘bad’.[1] But secondly – and this is much more important – I mean the habit of identifying oneself with a single nation or other unit, placing it beyond good and evil and recognizing no other duty than that of advancing its interests. Nationalism is not to be confused with patriotism. Both words are normally used in so vague a way that any definition is liable to be challenged, but one must draw a distinction between them, since two different and even opposing ideas are involved.

By ‘patriotism’ I mean devotion to a particular place and a particular way of life, which one believes to be the best in the world but has no wish to force on other people. Patriotism is of its nature defensive, both militarily and culturally. Nationalism, on the other hand, is inseparable from the desire for power. The abiding purpose of every nationalist is to secure more power and more prestige, not for himself but for the nation or other unit in which he has chosen to sink his own individuality.

I am an American, and I think Americans and British people (and Canadians, and Australians and Kiwis) like to make fun of each other because they see how similar they are. If a British person does something that an American finds annoying, it may be that they realize that they are just like them, and it makes them feel uncomfortable. It's also safe and easy to make fun of very similar people, as opposed to some marginalized group whose feelings could easily be hurt.

I have a low opinion of Australians, for example, because of a few who I've met who I really didn't like. But I think on some level it's because they remind me of the worst attributes of Americans.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@ulnae I agree most of get alone here well and most Americans like the British. I think the anti-Brit crowd you will find are mostly anti non-American types.
I am American

I will assume the people posting what you noted are blocked.

Cause I have not seen any mud flinging today on my feed.
@RubySoo This is fascinating ... I have no idea what people saw or read
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@questionWeaver just the usual. A 'funny' post about how we Brits are jealous of Americans, showing photo of yr gorgeous country and sayingvwhat a shit tip ours is and how sensitive we are and that the women are ugly and nobody wants to live here.
I didnt find it funny and dont understand why peopke sayvsuch nasty thing coz they dont like a couple of British guys on here. Im aware sometimes similar things are posted by brits about americans. I was just voicing my own opinion on how stupid and divisive it is.
@RubySoo Appreciate you sharing!

Glad I missed it!

People need to use the block key ... insult posts are never constructive.

THANK YOU!!

I am British, I like the US people on here and the Canadians👍
I did see the post and what I was getting from it was a tongue-in-cheek humor and not anything serious. It was definitely a test to see if you can laugh at yourself.😉
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@stratosranger oh i can laugh at myself.

🇺🇦🌻🇺🇦 i am neither American nor British, and i know many people here from both nations who are bright, clever, smart, witty... but also capable of being complete ass/arse holes when the mood takes them.

i think of you as friends... granted, i don't have any real friends so how would i judge.

both of you are fortunate to live in countries which are admired more than despised. even though it may not seem like that to you. and i am sure neither the admiration nor the despising are fully merited.

but you should pause for a while and consider, just as you enjoy throwing shit at one another, there are some truly unpleasant people out there bent on destroying your way of life. really destroying.

and you need to wake up to them and their threats, rather than indulge yourself with navel gazing and playground insults.

(end of lecture)
Yulianna · 26-30, F
@Ambroseguy80 😯 i know you like circling ass/arse holes, but could you please save that for a more suitable thread

Its the same all over the world ,mostly good ,with a few bad uns making up the numbers
Agreed......
Londonn · 41-45, M
I've lived in the both worlds as a foreigner, and I generally find Americans tend to be passive aggresive and Brits loud and proud 😁
ImRileyTheDog · 22-25, F
I mean we’re all human and some humans suck more than others

But not everyone is the same either
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@ImRileyTheDog exactly. And just because you dislike a handful of people from a certain country shouldnt make you draw the conclusion all brits or whatever are bad/ stupid/ugly....
ImRileyTheDog · 22-25, F
@RubySoo Agreed
Bang5luts · M
Believe me, I am quite aware of how rude Americans can be. I deal with them daily. On behalf of my rude countrymen and women, rude people are everywhere, their attitudes are exactly like their opinions, not well informed and they stink. Back to the point, we are all human beings. Not one different from another with the exception of level of ignorance we have. ❤️
Do not allow them the pleasure of knowing they ruined your day

RubySoo · 56-60, F
@DeluxedEdition i do also say some of the nicest people ive met online are Americans too....and that a lot of Brits are Twonks too.

Im sorry you still think we all talk shit. Still tarring us with the same brush. 😔
GovanDUNNY · M
There is no Americans v British and when any shit comes down they always cover each others backs
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
Sorry for those Americans who are also asses. I have to live among some of them. Ugh.
