Am I the only person who took NO TRIPS as a child?

This came up in conversation today and the person was very shocked that I hadn't anywhere as a kid and not many places in my own state.

Not all families could afford family vacations.

Then when I was an adult, working PT and going to school, I didn't have the money nor was able to take time off.

My first job out of college allowed very minimal time off and was super strict.

Then I had more money, plenty of time off, and no one to go anywhere with...

We traveled, but it wasn't the "family vacation" sort of trips -- since my father never stopped working, and "vacation" to him meant working from 5am-10am only with a mobile business center. My mother did take us on some trips with one of my aunts, or we would go visit relatives in other countries/cities as children. Mostly, though, it was summer camp, then grandparents' summer house, amusement parks that were not too far away, etc. Sometimes, I was secretly jealous of families I knew who went on real family vacations where they did things together, drove in the family station wagon, or RV, etc.

My friend had a motor home and they would go on epic journeys out west for the entire summer, whereas I was marooned at camps in New England, the beach, etc. -- just similar scenery from year-to-year with other travel trips interspersed. When my brothers and I did go to Europe, sometimes for months on end, it was usually alone as we have family in several countries, so I could be in London, a brother in the South of France, etc. We did what we wanted, but it wasn't "together" all the time, as many people I know did do. They thought what we did was awesome, since they felt their families were suffocating, but they have stories about how their sister got on their nerves between Barstow and Vegas when they drove the wrong way around to get to the Grand Canyon, etc.
