I grew up not leaving my state until I went into the service. We use to go visit relatives and have cookouts nearly every week in the summer . My grandmother lived close to a great sandy beach and not many people was there. As for vacations no we never went on any that I can remember. I remember like you when I did get so I had money and time then nobody was there to go with it seemed . I decided I didn’t care I’d go by myself it’s not the same but I did see a few beautiful places then my wife it was a lot better.

@Repete having a grandmother living by a big sandy beach seems like a dream vacation to me. I’d be staying with grandma and helping her for the summer just to be able to go to the beach every few days.
