Random thoughts of no real significance, just my little glass of whine for the night.
When I was filling in my profile info. I was given two options regarding sexual preference. I could either be "Homosexual" or "Queer"
These "options" gave me pause for sometime. Most of you here are considered "straight" which implies an acceptable norm which is fine. However, "Homosexual" sounds almost like a clinical diagnosis. Makes me wonder why didn't admin. select "Heterosexual" as the opposite rather than straight which technically has nothing to do with sexual preference.
I refuse "Queer" my generation wore this label with shame and fear. We were the acceptable target of both verbal and physical abuse. I realize young gay men accept "Queer" with pride. They do not realize the pain we went through to secure the rights they enjoy today.
I realize labels are simply that. They do not define me as a human being. I would rather be called "Gay" because it appropriately suggests the basically happy person I am.
Any thoughts?
