Why do women buy only the top or bottom of a bikini?

Why have only the top or just the bottoms when you can buy a matching set? How do you even wear it separately? A bikini top with shorts? A bikini bottom with a t-shirt? Now your bra or underwear don't match. I just don't get it.

@StickyToffeePudding you would think it was that way but then after some have sold its near impossible to find a matching top or bottom.
