if you ask someone for input: are you actually interested? or you just going through some rituals to do whatever you had planned anyways?

I get the impression that asking for input is becoming fashionable. let's call it participation. and then we can always say that we asked for involvement and we carefully evaluated all contributions before we pushed through our initial planning.
