Is it weird I never heard my parents argue?

My ex actually said, "We're going to have an argument. Pick a topic.", as we were driving down the road. It would have been ok had they been remotely civil but they typically caused me to hide away into a shell. She would talk and I would try to make head or tail out of it and try not to lose mine in the process. The phrases, "I feel...", "So what I heard you say was..." Were all a part of the regimented communication routine but when the "I'm insulted!" Started flying a part of me just switched off. These were not sparing contests these were always a bloodsport and I was the poor bunny being released to the hounds.
