A Christian mystic, Meister Eckhart, once said that if the only prayer we ever said was "thank you" it would be enough. The very same is found in non-theistic Buddhism, in Pure Land Buddhism, with the nembutsu which is simply gratitude. Gratitude in all circumstances, good or bad. How can we ever truly know which is which as Reality unfolds? "The Great Way is not difficult for those without preferences" (The "Hsin Hsin Ming")
@Tariki I've been doing my gratitude affirmations so long now I can't even remember how or why it all started. What I have learned is that it feeds itself, it becomes ever- expanding for me and eventually, for others. The more I express gratitude, the more things manifest to be grateful for.

I now know, each time I log in something wonderful will happen. You are a good example of this.
@Grateful4you I slipped into Pure Land many years ago and the Nembutsu ( "namu-amida-butsu" ) has morphed into "thank you, thank you". It permeates our entire being. Some argue about whether it's a mantra or not. I don't really care what it is....😀
@Tariki Re: Thank you, thank you. I have no religion, none whatsoever yet, when I used to hold exercise class for our elders, or our "step down" cardiac units, I would place my palms together in prayer position and bow low before the patients. To me, it was in recognition to the "Higher souls" in front of me. A gesture of respect and honor.
@Grateful4you I'm totally secular. The Pure Land expression of the Dharma has been one of life's blessings. I have "mentors" everywhere.....
