most people dont yet equate freedom with losing all control
I just learned that the great push for "democracy" in China in 1989...was a move to be (among other things) allowed to have meritocracy in hiring. Here we wanna get rid of that stuff. Just one example but I can't do a long philosophical thing about this now or here...
but much of life is paradoxical/nuanced that way
