Every wonder what food prisoners are allowed to buy while in prison?

While going through some of my paperwork tonight I found an old commissary sheet from prison and thought I'd share and let you all see what convicts are allowed to purchase weekly.

All processed foods. It would be good to be able to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables to supplement their meals.
@cherokeepatti we didn't have the luxury of a refrigerator so yeah, mostly processed foods lol

@Complexconfessions apples, oranges, bananas and other fresh fruit doesn’t need a refrigerator if you buy small amounts.

@cherokeepatti those are processed through the main cafeteria and are considered contraband if brought back to a cell.
@cherokeepatti yeah but with fruit as with sugar, wine is made. They try to keep certain things like that out of our hands. You'll notice the sweeteners in there aren't actual sugar but substitutes.

@Complexconfessions And fresh veggies like bell peppers, carrot sticks etc. would be good snacks too.
@cherokeepatti the last thing they want is for the criminals to be healthy lol

@Complexconfessions healthy diet helps with moods

@Complexconfessions they could weaponize the carrots too
but a big thing would be infrastructure to deliver perishable items
it's not there

@Complexconfessions and diet soft drinks have been researched on prisoners & juveniles, they increase behavior problems. You’d think they wouldn’t behavior problems.

@dubkebab yeah they could.

@cherokeepatti the prison industry doesn't treat recidivism,much less minimal health concerns
@dubkebab carrots was the last thing they'd weaponize. You could buy a lawnmower blade from a trustee for 100$. They didn't just have shanks there, they had swords. I've seen men strap magazines to their chests and arms to protect from blades during wars
@dubkebab which is why the recidivism rate was at 89% when I last checked.

@Complexconfessions where was this?
dubkebab · 51-55, M
@Complexconfessions I have no doubt.I was kidding about carrots,I've heard plenty of CDC war stories
