Do you ever worry about people having lied about your skill level?

There are a lot of people out there who think they're much better at things than they are, whether that be drawing, singing, etc. different skills. People joining competitions thinking they're definitely gonna go to the next round only to be given a harsh reality check. I figure it probably comes from people complimenting them either as a form encouragement or to be polite.

Do you ever wonder if you're actually good at the things you THINK you're good at, or if everyone's been lying to you?

My mom thinks i'm amazing at ..well, whatever.
My dad thinks i'm amazing at ..well, differnt whatever.
My husband thinks i'm a failure at everything.

What people think is subject to opinion, and opinions are exactly that. Opinions.

I used to worry about them having low standards. I usually know where I stand and am aware it could be much better. So when someone thinks I'm really good at something and I know there are kids even younger than me who are much better at it somewhere else, I wonder who do they compare me with and what does "really good" means to them.

Can't relate with that confidence level 🤣

I never thought of anything like that, as I know there are others that are better than me. Also, if people would think I'm lying at what I do, then I'm gonna let them think.... because they'll always be wrong and I care less. I do appreciate truthful comments and compliments every now and again, though.

Mmm, sometimes I wonder this if I’m actually good at what I did in the Army or currently in Academia or if it was my NCOs/Professors talking me up. The I remember I’m the one that burned gas getting things done, I have the sore muscles, and I have the late nights and coffee grinds to prove my persistence.

I think I'm good at what I do for a living, but not good enough to be in the high/top tier. I challenge myself (e.g with competitions) more for having some objective assessments of my progress, than for boosting my self-confidence actually.

Unfortunately I've see people greatly exaggerate what they can do

Yes. I'm mediocre in everything. I don't like anyone saying I do better than I actually do because then there are expectations I don't feel like meeting.

people are rather mean to me about the things I do so I think I'm good.
I think that I have a good group of friends who speak up when I suck at something.

I wouldn't care less. we have bad days and good days how I see it but I hate these kind of people who are like that and don't even knowledge anyone to be social. it's more like "Fuck You It's about me" type of shit

I don't worry too much about things like that. I know what I'm good at and I put a lot of work into getting good. I trust results rather than opinions.
