Can you give an example of an inconvenient truth?

If you don't know, an inconvenient truth is something that is true but is inconvenient to believe and/or act upon. The classic example is carbon emissions cause global warming and so we have to reduce our carbon footprint. Can you think of other inconvenient truths?
