The point is to get as close to this man made ideal as possible so that as few people can suffer as possible. Regardless, people will still disagree on what the words equality actually mean and some simply don't care and may even prefer to use such ideals to manipulate and control the masses to their own advantage. Such is human nature I guess.

I personally don't think so. I think suffering is just a fact of all life and lack of knowledge, intelligence and empathy create even more of it.

@ZefNinjaa: That's good and all if you're a buddhist but I'm not regardless of my belief in reincarnation. However, I do see some wisdom in those words as learning from our pain and suffering can make our lives better. Still, I don't know if you've noticed or not but not everyone here gets even close to the same trials and some people actually do live very comfortable and happy lives regardless of their personalities and very few people actually retain memories from previous lives. Also, suffering extends to the animal kingdom as well so we can't just call it human nature if almost every creature is capable of suffering.

@ZefNinjaa: I think you are mistaken about what I'm trying to say. I'm not saying there is equality or that there ever will be. Like I said above, equality is a manmade ideal. I also said that people would disagree with what the words equality actually mean. I personally don't believe that everyone should be treated the same. However, I truly doubt you think suffering is always a good thing or you would try to catch a disease or cover your body in second and third degree burns. You wouldn't go to the hospital when extremely sick or seriously injured either. It's true that some suffering can teach us valuable lessons but I will always try and avoid undue suffering whenever possible and will help those I care about if possible as well. If I can remove pain, disease and starvation from the world I will do that as well.

Oh I 100% agree that suffering is a natural part of life and even about our actions making us who we are. Still, I'm not really too worried about the natural vs unnatural part as I wouldn't be able to talk to you right now if it weren't for totally awesome unnatural sources like the internet. I think I'll start worrying when we start losing things like the ability to create our own suffering as that is when we no longer have freedom of choice or the ability to learn from our mistakes and grow.

Btw, I'd like to point out that if all my wishes came true I'd actually have far more to live for than I do now >_>
