Did the panic merchants fail again?

Every once in a while there is a panic over nothing but with massive hype by the panic merchants. The corona virus is just one more for the note book. This one seems to be all about getting rid of Trump. The panic merchants have the public fighting over toilet paper when the death rate from the disease is about 0.1% and that predominantly among the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.

Yeah, the Coronavirus. The virus that has spread worldwide and has killed many and made many more sick is all about getting rid of Trump. 🙄

@SW-User It hasn't killed very many people in comparison to other illnesses. It is not a death sentence if you get it. Unless you are frail and elderly or have a compromised immune system you will fully recover in a few weeks.

@hippyjoe1955 Just because Coronavirus hasn’t killed as many people as other viruses doesn’t mean it’s not a serious virus for someone to catch.

@SW-User The fact is that viruses come and go all the time. If we panic every time the flu virus mutated and became immune to our vaccines.... Seriously we need to keep things in perspective.
SW-User
@hippyjoe1955 No one panics about the flu mutating because each year a new vaccine is made to combat that new strand of the flu. With this virus, we’ll just have to wait for it to go away.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@SW-User Exactly. But the flu kills magnitudes more people every year than corona ever will.
SW-User
@hippyjoe1955 True it does. However, getting the vaccine lowers that chance of getting it and potentially dying from it. Where as with Coronavirus, there is one yet to be made. And so people might be more concerned over that than the flu.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@SW-User Actually the vaccine has been shown to be completely ineffective. There is no evidence that it has any effect on preventing the flu or not. There is as much evidence that it inflicts the flu as there is evidence that it prevents the flu.

@hippyjoe1955 Are you psychic? How often do whole countries go on lockdown because of the annual flu?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Entwistle My point exactly. What exactly is going to benefit locking down entire countries? Everyone in the country exposed to corona?
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 Containing those affected is a good thing..you agree Joe?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Entwistle I am not really sure. It may be best to expose everyone to the virus and let the recovery begin.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 One estimation I read of the cost of doing just that was 11 million deaths in the USA alone.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Entwistle Oooo an estimation. Considering the non treated recovery rate is in the neighborhood of 99.9% among otherwise healthy individuals the estimation seems a little high. Most people won't get the illness even if nothing is done. Of those who are unfortunate enough to get it .1% will die from it. The life span of the virus is likely quite short and will cease being a threat to anyone in a few months.

@hippyjoe1955 That must be why Italy has gone on full lockdown and why many other countries will follow suit soon.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Entwistle Italy did what Italy did but it is very very doubtful any other country will even try to follow suit. Imagine what it would be like to be in complete lock down. No buying food. No going to work. No talking to your neighbors over the back fence. And all that for what? The off chance you might catch a mild flu? Seriously?
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 A mild flu? Corona virus so far is 34 times more deadly than the seasonal flu..percentage wise that is.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Entwistle Nope. Not even close. You need a much better source of information. It is one thing to be ignorant it is another to be misinformed. You have fallen into the latter category. I honestly suspect that there are two viruses at play here. The corona virus is a mild flu. However there is another virus that when contracted together with the corona makes the illness far worse. Here in Canada we are told that if we suspect we might have the corona virus we should phone the government health agency and stay home for two weeks. Once recovered go about your daily business.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 You honestly "Suspect"...oh okay. I should trust your suspicion over health authorities?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Entwistle Well you think a mild flu is going to kill everyone on the planet so I wouldn't be sticking your head too far above the parapet.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 Where have I ever said a mild flu will be killing everyone on the planet?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Entwistle You have a phobia of corona virus which is a mild flu.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 I have no phobia of Corona virus. I even replied earlier in another topic that I am not worried about it.
