I would say "no".
No one chooses to be sick, or poor, or hungry. You'll note I did not put "homeless" in this list because some people do, in fact, choose homelessness rather than giving up their booze or drugs.

No, we are placed where we land. We are however in charge of what we do with our life. Where we start out has nothing to do with where we finish up in the great scheme of things.

We don’t choose the circumstances under which it begins. But eventually we’re usually in a position to make certain choices that can improve it—or not.
