1. Raise the capital gains tax to match the income tax. People who make money investing should pay the same amount as people who make money laboring. This will balance the budget and generate enough money to help pay for...
2. Universal Healthcare. The country operates better when Americans are healthy. This includes mental health, dental and vision.
3. Reduce military spending to 2.0% of GDP. Depend more on our alliances. Lease (sell or give) surplus ships, planes and equipment to NATO allies. Make all NATO allies spend 2.0% of GDP.
4. Stop policing the world. Make homeland defense the priority. Bring deployed troops home except troops assigned to NATO, S. Korea, Japan (forward defense) and those involved in the global war on terror.
5. Criminal justice reform, including legalizing marijuana, decriminalizing other recreational drugs, finding alternatives to prison sentences that would include allowing defendants to remain employed, eliminating private run prisons, improving the conditions in prisons and eliminating unneeded criminal statutes.
6. Commit to a plan to eliminate the manufacture and use of gasoline burning motor vehicles in 10 to 20 years or sooner, if feasible.
7. Push a switch to sustainable energy sources, as much as possible, during the same time period. Make the US as close to energy sufficient as possible.
