Were you glad Joaquin Phoenix won "Best Actor" this year.?

I had never really given this guy a second thought until I watched his acceptance speech on the Academy awards night. In all my years, I have never witnessed such a moving and heartfelt speech. Not only is he a great actor but a real humanitarian, I was in tears for his compassion and empathy for animals which he values as much as humans.

He ended the speech with a moving quote from his brother, (River) who I'm sure is very proud of him. Since then, I've watched a number of interviews and it's apparent the entire family all share the same ethics and values.

Hope some of you will check out this short but very moving acceptance speech.

He has always been a great artist, not only by his performance, but also by his mentality...

This happened after the Academy Oscar event

Instead of going to after party, he chose to go and eat a sandwitch with someone that he loves... with the prize in there on the floor

@JimBob60

It sounds like a really interesting archive... so valuable...

@Grateful4you I wish I found more like this here
@Fungirlmmm I'll take that as a really nice compliment. 🥰
He deserved it he was amazing in Joker
@JimBob60 Thank you ever so much for posting this preview. The movie is obviously an instant classic.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread which has now been going for a couple of hours with only one negative response posted. I'm so glad I posted the question.

@JimBob60 Normally I wouldn't delete a negative response to a question but part of Joaquin's speech was to pay homage to his brother "River". The speech was something I personally needed to hear today and I found "Boo Boo's" comment both banal and shallow. Also, this has provided me an introduction with a couple of members (yourself included) I haven't known previous to the post and I really appreciate your (and others) observations. I will be watching your suggested movie. Thanks again, David.

I'm glad to see him finally get some recognition. I remember the days when he used to call himself Leaf, lol.

I've not seen many movies the actor has been in, including Joker. I do hope to see it, eventually, and the documentary Earthlings. I am glad he won the Oscar though, because of his acceptance speech. I'd not any heard any Oscars acceptance speech before, that got to me as much as his did. I wanted to clap for him...and I did, inside.

I've always loved him. Even when he played Johnny Cash, who I was not a big fan of.
He's an exceptional human being.
@SW-User Yes, a real affirmation of the good in most people which is gratifying especially in these times.
SW-User
@SW-User He was super in that roll!
SW-User
@SW-User he was, but again, not a fan of Johnny Cash. Lol

I never watched his speech... But his portrayal of a person descending into his own personal hell was brilliant!
I’ve always liked him. Excellent actor (and the most beautiful eyes). I’ll have to look for the speech.
@JimBob60 Electrifying. It gave me chills.

I hate award shows. So, I could care less.

@TwiddlerofThumbs I'm generally the same but decided to check out the three main categories for the sake of curiosity and glad I did.
@Grateful4you Curiosity is like that. I really ma glad for him, if it means anything to him that he won.

He's good and deserved it. I was happier for the mega won of Parasite. Anyway I've listened some good speech at Oscars/Grammies and various awards during the years. I LOVED a speech made by Madonna few years ago.

I don't really care about the Oscars or any of the award shows.
