The bayonet shaped hole is for a twist-to-lock type fitting.
The hooked end looks as if it'll slide over a single thickness of metal.
Looks like the sort of fitting that might provide a quick-detach parcel shelf style attachment point to me. If you don't see any corresponding parts near the rear window try looking under the hood for anything with a bayonet fitting.
