What is your pet peeve as a motorist?

People who don't use turn signals as if I'm a psychic and know they're going to make a left and now I am trapped behind them when I could have gone around had they given advance notice.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
lots of things...

people who don't notice stoplight turning green because they're too busy playing with their friggin phones

people who can't move their finger two measly inches to use turn signal

or people who wait till the last 30ft to signal (as if signaling is for their benefit instead of everyone behind them locking up their brakes for some idiot stopped in middle of road)

people who hurriedly pull out in front of you then drive 30mph

motorcyclists that can't keep a 2ft wide bike inside an 8ft+ wide lane, lean over yellow lines in curves, and expect you to give them right of way...

bicyclists on busy roads, and backing up traffic for miles because they're too ignorant to get off the fucking road and onto the shoulder

people driving quad cab trucks and big suv's that can't drive, park, or back-up for shit...

@wildbill83 I share many of your pet peeves
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@Lisette yep, we're practically made for each other it seems... 😅

Probably the lack of signalling, often but no means always, on roundabouts, where they seem to imagine you can guess their vague-seeming intentions from their position.

I do NOT object to people sticking to the speed limit, whether on a single-carriageway urban road or on the motorway, where is no such thing as a "fast lane". (The road is essentially a dual carriageway with an extra overtaking lane.) I am though vexed by someone wilfully driving for long distances at unreasonably well below the speed-limit, in a car and in conditions both reasonably safe even at the limit. An odd trait of some of them is driving at 40mph in a 50 limit, but keeping to it when reaching a 30mph limit.

One queue I was in behind such a driver, was over a mile long, shown by a glance in the mirror when breasting a low hill at the end of a long straight stretch.

'

Motorway and dual-carriageway users who drive as fast as they can down the outside lane then cut sharply across everyone else at the last moment to take the exit.

'

Cyclists who flout all the regulations in the book, often deliberately and dangerously using pavements to do so. A common one is using either no lights at all, or an extremely intense spot-beam, often flashing, headlamp set to dazzle anyone coming the other way.

'

Pedestrians! Not all of course, but those who have no road-sense or consideration, and not just to drivers but even to fellow-pedestrians on the same pavement!

@ArishMell whoever came up with roundabout intersections should've been burnt at the stake for witchcraft for even mentioning the idea... 🤔

Oh where do I begin.

I don't know if you've driven along the toll-free A7 motorway in Spain's Costa Del Sol but whilst the area in general is beautiful, joining the motorway in heavy traffic is a nightmare; few slip roads or lights, virtually no courteous drivers who'll give you a chance. In the end you have to choose between going nowhere or the possibility of going nowhere in a box. All Spanish drivers learn to blast their horns and that's about it. And yet if you ask them for directions or help changing a wheel you become an amigo.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@alan20 Spaniards are some of the most oblivious people in the world; they're bad enough as pedestrians, let alone behind the wheel... 🤔

@wildbill83 They've many great qualities, e.g.sense of drama and colour but recognition of colour certainly doesn't apply to traffic lights in Palma.
Syktur · 26-30, M
Definitely lack of indicator. I also hate it when people go slow in the fast lane
Lisette · 36-40, F
@Syktur That drives me crazy especially when a person drives like a maniac to get bn in front of you only to slow to tortoise's pace!
HannahSky · F
@Lisette it's never because the person in front is going slow, they just like to do it
Lisette · 36-40, F
@HannahSky it's a very dangerous practice
HannahSky · F
@Lisette that's what bothers me the most about it
Thespis · M
Not passing in the left lane.
Thespis · M
@Thespis Also people pulling out of a parking lot to turn left before they can make the left turn. Thus they block 1-2 of the lanes.
Lisette · 36-40, F
@Thespis I want to strangle those people
Eternity · 26-30, M
People who go slow in the fast lane.
Lisette · 36-40, F
@Eternity That one too!
not turning on lights when it's dark
not signalling their turn and stopping short
weaving in traffic
tailgating when you're in the slow lane
trying to make a left hand turn across a busy street and expecting people to stop for them
oh and pulling out in front of you and not speeding up
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@approachingmyexpirationdate Cyclists are the worst for Point 1, I have found. Far too many either wilfully and illegally use no lights at all, not even a rear reflector, or they fit extremely intense spot-lamps so as to dazzle anyone coming the other way.

I've seen cars being driven light-less even when the night itself is fully dark, but in areas with bright street-lighting where the headlamps don't really illuminate the way ahead. This is rare though, and I think more likely by the driver's forgetfulness rather than will.

I know it's colloquially called the "slow lane" but officially there is no such thing on British motorways and dual-carriageways: especially on a motorway, the outside lane is for over-taking. I think this is not mere word-play by the Department of Transport but an attempt not to encourage exceeding the speed-limits.

Merging and then slowing down
Other drivers.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
People on the highway in the fast lane thinking because the speed limit is posted at something that they can do that speed limit and piss everybody off.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
People driving insanely, as if they're drunk, which who knows, they might be as it tends to me more on a Friday or Saturday night and during Christmas period :(
Jmod42 · 26-30, M
People that turn out in front of you to slow down or make a turn when there are no cars following you.
yogibooboo · M
The total lack of courtesy everywhere.
