Why do I get strangers wanting to follow me on Twitter?

I have had a few, some I have immediately guessed was scam, but I also had a woman who was not so easy to work out, said she liked my sense of humour, had a feeling for me when she saw my profile, she was not completely put off when I told her I was involved with someone, I have blocked her, but was this a possible scam? She kept inboxing me, wanting to know more and more about me. What I did for a living, if I was married, had children.
