Sometimes. But it's really annoying. I can't stand it, but I view it like Game of Thrones. You can be like Ned Stark and hold your honor and refuse to play the game. Then you get decapitated. Or you can play the game. Either way, the game will be played. It's important to know the undertone and pretext of social interactions. Snakey and deceptive and horrible, but that's where the power lies. I'm strong as hell, but I'm no match for systematic reputation attacks. So, you have to battle in that arena.
That said, I suck at it, because I'm naturally very direct.
