LOL I actually got humming birds to trust me enough to come up to me , the would tap on my window and let me know their feeder was either empty or yellow jackets (a type of bee) was blocking their feeders ,I have seen the yellow jackets try to attack them and run them off At first I burned the wings off of the yellow jackets ,but then I felt bad ,they are just trying to live too So I fed them coke out of my hand and they left the feeders alone I wish I could have got the humming birds to eat from my hand like this
but I did get them to trust me enough for my buddy to get this shot
@rckt148 That's amazing. My dad has several feeders and the hummingbirds now recognize him and flutter around him when he goes out in his yard. They all have different personalities and there's one that's kind of an a-hole and tries to chase all the other birds away.
The image above is of a hummingbird moth. They look and move very much like hummingbirds. If you aren't familiar with them, you'd likely mistake one for a hummingbird.
@TheFlippantSide I have seen many kinds of moths that are huge ,I may have seen one and mistook it for a humming bird as you say . When I was younger my female friends called me nature boy I loved animals .especially horses and the river ,my Uncle hunted from horseback and my daughter now runs a horse ranch ,I made nature lovers out of them too .but we also care for our humans as well . I was making money when I was real young harvesting oysters and clams ,helping in my grandpa's fish house working for him in his orange groves and gardens I got to work with Elephants and Camels (a friend owned a traveling carnival that gave Elephant and Camel rides,the camels pulled a cart no one actually on their back ,they like to spit so I was good at keeping them from spitting on kids )I have friends that work big cats ,another one that worked at gator land so he taught me not to be afraid of gator and how to deal with them Lots of friends that raised goats ,and cows and my ex son in law actually raised brown bear ,,he would do a thing at the school when he was younger where he wrestled bears ,He and his Dad flew to Alaska ever year to hunt big bear ,they were the ones Fish and Game called on when Bear are a problem where we live . I lived in the Everglades as a teen ,got to see the Seminole wrestle gator when I was there to sell them fish . I have been a hunter since I was real young too So lots of time at sea and in the woods I have seen sea turtle and whales like few have has the chance to ,30 ft manna rays ,,worked area's with sting ray all around me and never been stuck ,I respect them and know how to handle them I am told I have the voice of authority ,animal and kids listen to me I have has to kill wolves and coyote that have tried to kill live stock I see silver and red fox a lot ,wild turkeys ,hawks and owls ,fox squirrel there is a skunk that lives here ,I know its here because I smell it if another animal tangles with it or scares it ,,I have 2 huge indigo snakes that love it here and have been here for several years ,no rattlers with them around ,though I have killed 3 cotton mouths ,so they must not be afraid of the indigo ,I have 3 skinks that have lived here a long time They are huge and gray ,people mistake them for snakes ,they are so comfortable around me they just come inside whenever Family catch them in the hall or coming for a visit sometimes and they scare them (my family ,they are not scared by me at all ) I have sit and watched chipmunks play just feet from me ,ground hogs I love nature ,,water falls and caves ,my Dad taught me a lot about trees So I am sure I have seen one ,,just didn't know what I was seeing but I can see the tubular feeder verses a long beak
