Is there really a climate crisis?

I think it's all made up because the government are not doing anything about it

t's not like I enjoy the prospect of climate change. I'd be very happy if climate change were proven wrong. But when faced with overwhelming facts and evidence, a reasonable person faces up to the problem and decides the best course of action. They don't pretend the problem doesn't exist.

@badminton What evidence and facts do you have. Curious.

Scientific evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal.
- Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

The current warming trend is of particular significance because most of it is extremely likely (greater than 95 percent probability) to be the result of human activity since the mid-20th century and proceeding at a rate that is unprecedented over decades to millennia.1

Earth-orbiting satellites and other technological advances have enabled scientists to see the big picture, collecting many different types of information about our planet and its climate on a global scale. This body of data, collected over many years, reveals the signals of a changing climate.

Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner.

Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves.

Scientists have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which includes more than 1,300 scientists from the United States and other countries, forecasts a temperature rise of 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century.

@badminton You do know that NASA tampers with its data don't you. It is quite widely known in the scientific community. They use 'smoothed' data rather than real data. Sadly their data sets are frauds. It seems they serve their masters at the IPCC who in their last article denied climate change. Strange company they keep.

@JAYS21 There certainly is that point. No one can tell us what the ideal would be.

@JAYS21 The following page lists the nearly 200 worldwide scientific organizations that hold the position that climate change has been caused by human action.

@JAYS21 Yeah I remember those winters. 1974 we could walk from the ground to the top of the barn by walking up the snow drifts. The barn was about 30 feet tall. It was great fun. 1968 it got down to -40 every nigh for a 6 week stretch. The local radio stations were handing out certificates saying we survived the big freeze.

Sadly we keep taking too short a time frame to determine the trend. It gets warmer it gets colder it gets warmer again. CO2 is not even a greenhouse gas. It vibrates at a very narrow wavelength of infrared light. Trouble being the wavelength in discussion is completely absorbed at a lower level of CO2 so adding more CO2 has no effect at all. Kind of using a 10 lbs sponge to absorb a gallon of water. Using 20 lbs of sponge doesn't absorb 2 gallons of water if there is only one gallon to start with.

@badminton And guess what they are all government scientists. You need a better hobby. Governments want to solve non existent problems. It keeps them in power. Old shell game that's been going on for centuries. Read Eisenhower's warning in his parting address. If you know what he is talking about you can see the AGW crowd writ large.

@JAYS21 There is no such thing as “proven” in science, but the current certainty is very high.

@JAYS21 Yes, only people who know nothing whatsoever about the field are aware of the real data 😂
