What did he mean?

Was out for drinks with friends and was at the counter ordering. I had a cigarette in my hand.
A friend put 'Stick em up! Your money or your life.' Too embarrassed to ask what he meant. Any ideas?

"Your money or your life" dates back to the time of highway men who'd hold a gun on the people on the coach he was robbing. I reckon it was a joking reference to the prices in the bar and a teasing reference to him robbing you to pay the bar bill.
