I group up in New England (the northeastern most region of America) and there the phrase is used in a gender neutral fashion.

One of my friends down here just said, "I'm not a guy," when I used the phrase this way.

How about where you're from? Neutral or specific?

Sara - Not only is this person not a guy, she's not a friend.

What kind of ass hole response is that?
And to a friend?
Your friend has a jagged PC stick up her butt.

You guys is neutral - certainly among friends. IMO

@Budwick But that's the thing . It is YOUR opinion. If your friend, who is a girl, doesn't want to be referred to as a guy, that is her prerogative. You don't get to call her names. Stay in your lane. Your 1960's thinking is way outdated.

Thanks do much for your input!

BTW - did you notice the author asking for opinions?
bellybuttonfan17 · 36-40, M
@Budwick She asked for opinions on the usage, not on her friend. What now you need reading glasses too ?

@bellybuttonfan17 Be careful Belly -
don't get hit by a bus.

@Budwick You be careful don't fall down in your bathroom. Keep one of those whistles handy.. you seem to need it.

@bellybuttonfan17 Budick has a problem with reading what he wants to read and never having said the things you actually cut and paste that he said.

@bellybuttonfan17 Button - what exactly is your major malfunction?
Budwick · 70-79, M
@MLGecko Hey guys, let's jump the old guy!
bellybuttonfan17 · 36-40, M
@Budwick It is you giving opinions on random people you have never met, about things you don't know. Basically I have a problem with people who have a rifle stuck up their ass.

@bellybuttonfan17 Button - You have an opportunity to learn something today.
Do not squander it.
The OP asked for opinion - I gave one.

You certainly have no problem spewing your opinions of me.
bellybuttonfan17 · 36-40, M
@Budwick Why don't you read what you just said and take your own advice.
She asked for an opinion yes, "of the the usage of the term guys" -- NOT of her friend. But you gave it anyway. My opinion of you is purely based on your response.
Again I ask... Do you need reading glasses ?
Budwick · 70-79, M
@bellybuttonfan17 It was a bonus!
No extras charge
My opinion was based on the info I had too.

Bite Me!

@Budwick
Bite Me!
Funny, I did exactly that and you're whining like a little boy.

Sit down.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@bellybuttonfan17 I don't feel bitten.
I can see you are one of those that
#1 MUST have the last word
#2 well, I guess that's about it.

Go ahead Belly - Speak!
I have to shout you down and get in the last word because that proves I am right and defends my fragile ego cuz if I don’t I will eat the family size bag of Doritos and blame the world for all my problems. (Hands on ears and shouting) La la la not listening! La la la not listening! @Budwick

@bellybuttonfan17, @Budwick, @DukeOfEarle -- First, I'm quite capable of speaking for myself. No one needs to ever tell anyone else what I did or didn't say. Next, if ya wanna beat each other up, please go do it someplace else. Displays of testosterone do not impress here. In fact, it has quite the opposite effect on me. Finally, ... oh never mind, I forget what I originally wanted to respond to here anyway. Sheesh!

Be well.
