It really doesn't depend where you're from. It depends on who you are addressing it to. I have friends from all over. In some groups, it flies just fine. I one group, I used it and the girl in the group said "I am not a guy". So I just switched to "Hey all, or hey ya'll" .
@sarabee1995 yep. It was a group of 4 of us. But we are besties you know. So when she said that, I felt, damn , I didn't realize it all this while she was feeling this way. So yeah now I make sure I include an inclusive term. Just little things.
@bellybuttonfan17 So I typically do alter my language to suit the audience I am speaking to. On here, with the global audience, I have avoided using "you guys" unless I'm speaking exclusively to the male half of the population. When I am back home in New England, I use "you guys" all the time in every situation no matter who I'm speaking to. It's just the phrase we use. But down here in Washington, with the mixing of people from everywhere, I try to avoid it, but it slips in from time to time. My friend needling me was just bringing a bit of southern charm to this brash northern girl.
@sarabee1995 I know exactly what you mean. I lived in Boston for 8 years so that's my vocab too. But you gotta respect their wishes if they don't like being referred to as guys. So yeah I have modified it now. 😁😊 In other groups where they don't care, it is still the same.
