I get it ...

I used to think I was just a regular person, but I was born white, which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a racist.

I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today's standards makes me a fascist.

I am heterosexual, which now makes me a homophobe.

I think and I reason, therefore I doubt much that the mainstream media tells me, which must make me a reactionary.

I am proud of my heritage, which makes me a xenophobe.

I value my safety and that of my family and I appreciate the police and the legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist.

I believe in hard work, fair play, and fair compensation according to each individual's merits, which today makes me an anti-socialist.

I believe in the defense and protection of my country and I honor those who serve in the Armed Forces, which now makes me a right-wing militant.

Please help me come to terms with the new me; because I'm just not sure who I am anymore!

Funny that it's all just taken place over the last couple of years! As if all of this nonsense wasn’t enough to deal with, now I’m not even sure which toilet to use!

Wow. Really? Hmmm... Interesting you think so. I seldom let the extremists of the world (or in this case, country) tell me who I am based on what I believe. The opposite could be said by those who believe in equality, freedom, pursuit of happiness regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation. I'm pro-choice, so does that make me pro-abortion? I think not. I think labels divide us and shouldn't be used. I also tend to think there is a quiet majority who are more moderate than the news and social media would like us to believe. My advice, not that you asked, but you did post this, is to be very careful with how you label yourself and others.

@ChampagneOnIce I'm not labeling myself at all. If people feel that way, then they need to re assess their lives.

This is what was sent to me by a friend this morning.

What will be, will be.

@Synyster The problem with posts like this is it just causes further division between people. My dad sent me the same thing because we are on opposite political sides at the moment. It's BS. I think it's better to have compassion and dialogue than to make assumptions or take things to the extreme and bitch about it. There are extremists and alarmists on both sides, and therein lies the problem. I think us "regular" people should be able to talk with each other, even with opposing views. I may not agree with you, but that doesn't mean I'm going to label you any of what you've posted above. Sorry, Synyster. It's all BS, and I'm sick of it.

@ChampagneOnIce I'm sorry you feel that way.
But remember, I'm Canadian and I'm referring to the way our country has deteriorated since 2015.

Sometimes you just can't debate opposing views.

I rarely post anything regarding politics, but today I felt compelled to post this.

Hope you have a nice day.

@Synyster I know you're Canadian, but the same can be said for what's happening in the US, the UK, Italy, and other countries. This world is deteriorating. We live in a global society and economy in many ways now, like it or not. I think the push toward nationalism is extremely dangerous regardless of where it's taking place, and anything that seeks more to divide than unify bothers me. There's nothing wrong with standing up for what you believe in and having pride in your country. That's not what I'm saying. I respect that and feel the same way. I share many of the same attributes on the left side of your sentences above. I just don't believe that makes either of us the right side of those sentences. What's happening around the world at the moment is scary.

@ChampagneOnIce I agree with most of what you wrote.
With the current issues we have and are facing today, having a globeless leader is very dangerous. He has forgotten about our Canadian values.

@Synyster I know others who share your opinion. I also know those who love your current PM. At least he seems somewhat stable whether or not you agree with his political agenda. Part of me wishes I lived in Canada at the moment. ;)

@ChampagneOnIce
Well we won't get into Trudeau's history on this post.
I'll run out of time writing this out on here.😉

@Synyster I don't know that much about him except he's very attractive, seems compassionate, and carries wheelchairs up escalators. 😄

@Synyster (I was fibbing a bit - I know a bit more than that. :) )
Synyster · 51-55, M
@ChampagneOnIce I know you do.
