Before Trump signed the bill, he invited the first responders on stage and joked about the stage collapsing: Is this amusing?

Just before signing the 9/11 victims compensation bill, Trump jokes with the first responders and their families that the stage may not hold all of them but that if it collapses they "are not falling very far"

Here's a comment from a foreign country: It is Mr. Trumps intention to attract as much attention as possible. The only topic of public debates has to be Mr. Trump himself. He withdraws all energy from all other topics of national interest (educational system, health system, rent, wages), and leads that energy into the Trump/anti-Trump debate. It's all about him, and only him. Even blaming Mr. Trump is good for Mr. Trump. Because it focuses on him. That's why he insults poor people, handicapped persons, and so on.. The whole thing is parasitic. He is parasitic. And he appears to be very successful, considering his approval rates.

Kind Regards from Europe.

@helenS While I agree with what you say, isn’t it also the case that the media, and Trump’s opponents, make it easy for him? For them it’s always about Trump the person, rather than about the administration led by President Trump.
helenS · 36-40, F
@MartinII Yes they make it easy for him. His behavior is parasitic and malevolent, but very successful. He's a professional entertainer, he knows the characteristics of contemporary media, and he knows the weaknesses of his opponents.
Fernie · F
@MartinII his minions are the ONLY people he's talking to...the rest of us are just in his way to a total dicktatorship...these morons would have drunk Jim Jones kool aid...now they've swilled trumps Hatorade
@MartinII It’s about Trump even when the only media is Fox or Breitbart and none of his opponents are around. Remember, Trump still holds partisan rallies for his supporters. Presidents don’t generally do this because most recognize that they were elected to represent the entire country—not just one political party.

@bijouxbroussard Personally I would not be surprised if all this happened in a backward "third world" country. Seeing this happen in a developed democracy is highly disturbing, irritating, unsettling. 😕
Fernie · F
@helenS too many people can't imagine the USA becoming a third world country...it's where he is taking us
MartinII · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Yes, but I don’t see what that has to do with my comment, though it inadvertently makes my point!

@Fernie As I said above, I live in a foreign country, so in a sense, it's not any of my business what's going on in the US, and I should keep my mouth shut, but the US is a country that I have always loved.

And I see similar tendencies in several European countries. Mr. Salvini (Italian hate monster), Mr. Orban (Hungary, inventor of "illiberal democracy"), Mr. Kaczyński (Poland)...

Something is going terribly wrong.
@MartinII You appear to be under the impression that if there were no political opponents and no media opposing him, Trump might behave differently. I was attempting to explain that he’s behaved this way regardless, long before he entered the political arena; with friend and foe alike. In other words, his enemies didn’t create him.
helenS · 36-40, F
@bijouxbroussard "his enemies didn’t create him
— ... but he creates enemies, because dividing people is an important part of his way to further success.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Thanks. No, his enemies didn’t create him. But they perhaps helped him to get elected, and in my opinion they play into his hands by the way in which they attack him.
@helenS Exactly, he has been the divisive factor in our country recently. I’m tired of people who want to paint him as some kind of victim of the “liberal leftist media”.That’s utter bull crap. 😳

@MartinII well...aren't you the genius...don't speak to me like that....most of what you've typed clearly indicates you are not...just arrogant...like trump
Fernie · F
@helenS Do not keep your mouth shut! His disease is traveling the globe...it's as much your business as ours
@MartinII Actually, apathy helped get him elected, residual racism and misogyny helped get him elected. But Trump’s own speech via tweet and on camera does him at least as much harm as anything that could possibly be considered an attack.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard No, I live in theUK. But I think you are missing my point. If you want to make sure that Trump loses the 2020 election, you need to persuade some people in key states who voted for him in 2016 to vote Democrat next time instead. Spending your time attacking Trump personally and insulting him, however justified those attacks and insults may be, is not the best way to achieve that objective, or so it seems to me.
@MartinII That’s why I deleted my post. Where you live is irrelevant, several people in the rest of the world do get it. Trump does the lion’s share of the attacking. He’s the one telling U.S. citizens of color to “go back”, he’s the one making personal attacks on his own people and government. How can you not see this ?
MartinII · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Apathy helped certainly. But to take the obvious example, Clinton’s description of Trump supporters as “deplorables” helped him too. Racism and misogyny need to be confronted and argued against, not dismissed. And the evidence so far is that Trump’s own language helps him, however difficult you and I may find it to believe that.
helenS · 36-40, F
@bijouxbroussard Maybe it's ok to say that he merely channels a certain type of malevolent emotions, which would exist without him (misogyny, hatred, racism, (...)) anyway. He is a perfect embodiment of these emotions. A perfect parasitic being.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard But Trump’s attack on the four Democrats, disgraceful though it was, seems to have gone down well with voters, from what I read.
@MartinII This is a perfect example of the onesidedness. Clinton made her “deplorables” comment and was pilloried for it by the same people who forgave Trump bragging about “grabbing” women, all Mexicans being “rapists and murderers”, only wanting immigrants from “places like Norway, not sh*thole countries like El Salvador, Haiti...and African countries”, and not liking veterans who “got captured”. They dismiss Trump’s racism and misogyny. And like you, they see anyone who brings it up as “attacking” him and causing problems.
@MartinII Racist voters, yes. He appeals to our country’s racism and xenophobia.
@helenS I’m not giving him any slack. He “channels” it because it’s a part of what he believes.
