What happened to the "cool" kids you went to school with?

I actually had that experience some years ago. Stopped at the traffic lights, in the part of town I went to school in.. Looked across and the equivalent of the prom queen and the BMOC, who were an item way back then were in a beaten up old car across the intersection. 30 years on had not been kind to either of them and they looked so bored and sad. I didnt bother to wave and say Hi.. It seemed cruel.
