What importance do you place on philosophy?

Many times I hear from people "oh, that is just a philosophical argument", using the term "philosophical" in as something bad. I would like to ask, what role do you think philosophy plays in the development of today's society. In ancient Greece, I hope we can all agree on this one, it had an enormous impact, but does it still have an impact today?

My Philosophy is simple Live earn and pay taxes regular basis . That's it.

@valobasa4ever that is perfectly fine, however, I am asking for the philosophy as the intellectual discipline where the most pedantic questions are being answered (or at least attempted of being answered). One of the questions that a philosopher would ask, why would you pay your taxes ;). And I do not want to discourage you from doing this, please continue being a great citizen.
