The Peter Gabriel era rocked.
I saw them live.
pedrohedgerow · 61-69, M
@Nimbus I missed them,but got a ticket for the reunion at Milton Keyns (?)...saw Gabriel enter stage in a coffin,then missed the rest through being too er..."drunk" 😭
helenS · 36-40, F
@Nimbus Another guy who saw those prog rock gods live! I feel some jealousy I have to say. 😁
helenS · 36-40, F
@pedrohedgerow That was the legendary one-time reunion concert wasn't it?
Nimbus · M
@pedrohedgerow Awwwwww, never got another chance?
Nimbus · M
@helenS Awwwww :)

I've seen YES too but the one I have missed out on and regretted is Marillion.
pedrohedgerow · 61-69, M
@helenS It was,and I should be shot!😵
pedrohedgerow · 61-69, M
@Nimbus Sadly(well,not THAT sadly)I now go watching tribute bands.The Thin Lizzy tribs were excellent,but in honesty,who could replace or even impersonate Phil Lynot?Another rock god 🙂
pedrohedgerow · 61-69, M
@Nimbus I had tickets for Yes,but some lowlife broke into my home and stole the tickets!Nothing else,just the tickets...
Nimbus · M
@pedrohedgerow Yep, one of many sad deaths :(
helenS · 36-40, F
@pedrohedgerow I sometimes feel like I've been born late. To me all this is pre-history. At least I have two Genesis vinyl records (family heirloom), "Nursey Crime" and "Foxtrot", where i think the latter one is much much superior.
Nimbus · M
@pedrohedgerow Oh my!

You're having some real bad luck!
Fernie · F
@pedrohedgerow someone knew you had those tickets...bastards!
pedrohedgerow · 61-69, M
@helenS Agreed...until Suppers Ready begins,which for me is inseperable from their very best works.The Lamb Lies Down is my favourite album of all time 🙂
helenS · 36-40, F
@pedrohedgerow "Supper's Ready" is the long song on side B of the Foxtrot album right? The one with the climactic piece in 9/8? That's probably their best moment.
[edit: the piece in 9/8 is probably the best moment of all prog]
pedrohedgerow · 61-69, M
@helenS 👍️ LSD in musical form.
helenS · 36-40, F
@pedrohedgerow Actually it's not simply 9/8.

It's 4-3-2. Very good accentuation of the rythm by the bass player (Tony Levin?).

duff dah dah dah - duff dah dah - duff dah

Very very good.
TheThinker · 56-60, M
@helenS I still have my original vinyl copies of everything from Trespass through to ...And Then There Were Three, albeit they're all in storage now.
helenS · 36-40, F
@TheThinker I listened to "...And Then There Were Three" briefly, was very much disappointed, and completely lost interest in the band.
TheThinker · 56-60, M
@helenS Yup, I only really bought it for "Follow You, Follow Me", played it once, then never again.
TheThinker · 56-60, M
@helenS It used to be the received wisdom that they weren't the same after Peter Gabriel left but no... it was Steve Hackett leaving that really did for them.
helenS · 36-40, F
@TheThinker Is Steve Hackett the guitarist on Foxtrot?
pedrohedgerow · 61-69, M
@helenS Yes,each of the original band brought something unique to themselves to the whole.
TheThinker · 56-60, M
@helenS Yes, from Nursery Cryme through to Seconds Out - he left the band while the latter was being mixed.
TheThinker · 56-60, M
@helenS
Tony Levin?
Mike Rutherford :-)
