I think Aristotle's quote is true as far as it goes.
Freedom of speech is something entirely different.

@Picklebobble2 You don't think it can be applied to freedom of speech ? Please tell me why.

@Wraithorn The problem with the phrase 'Freedom of speech' is that it offers no parameters within which that particular view is an expression of 'truth' as that person sees it.
No rules by which that freedom has limit.
Now when it come to dictatorial government or 'slavery' or 'serfdom', of course freedom of speech is a good and valued ideal and should be fought for.
But when one considers the fact that some folk hold irrational or even insane ideas about others, shouldn't that 'freedom' be reviewed ? repealed ? Revoked ?
One wonders what might have happened had there been limits on such freedoms during the 1930's.
Would Hitler still have been able to come to power if such a freedom never existed ?
And given that it did and resulting mass extermination of so many as an end, isn't there a benefit from revoking freedom of speech when it comes to race for example ?

@Picklebobble2 Ok, fair enough, thanks. I should have ended off my question with,"within reason of course".

@Wraithorn But that gets to the heart of it doesn't it !
What you consider within reason somebody else may not.

@Picklebobble2 I know...! It is simply not an easy thing for everyone to agree on. Drawing the proverbial line in the sand is impossible without offending or oppressing someone in some way. Like trying to draw a line through a minefield. 🙂
