You know nothing about the alternate universe except the following:

-The inhabitants of the alternate universe will speak your native language.
-The diseases in this alternate universe are on par with those of Earth, meaning that you will not perish upon arrival Native American-style.
-The inhabitants of the alternate universe subsist on similar foods to what humans subsist on as well as water, so such that you will not starve upon arrival.
-The civilization in this alternate universe has reached a better than a 1980s level of technological development.
-No other Earthlings have ever been to this universe, nor will they ever go.

Nicely specific, but still leaving so much open, like are the inhabitants amorphous blobs whose favorite food is Earthlings? Of course, with some creative reading "for a year" might suggest I'm slated to survive this year. Also I would likely go for the science and experience that no other human being will ever have even if I was certain to perish. (This raises some interesting questions for example regarding colonization of Mars; though I think the absurdity of having a Mars colony of humans who are so suicidal as to want to die on Mars has been explored before 馃槀).

I guess I'm just saying it'd be lot more enticing if the "things known about the universe" were only just "The place in the universe you're going to is survivable by a human".
