I don't think Americans could handle that well.
we show a poor track record in similar circumstances

I am watching the experiments in other countries.
i think Not having people be poor, is a Good thing

an no, "just plain hard work" is no longer a guarantee of no poverty

Personally, yes, but I also believe it requires evidence to support it, like the Finnish experiment.

No way. People should earn money.
Define a "Universal" Income, please!
Tell that to the people of Venezuela. They might have a different opinion. We still have a country where hard work is a guarantee of some level of success. Safety net-equal income? That was the question. We have safety nets- many worthwhile but often abused. And in the 33 years I was a firefighter, I was never told, "Oh, your job is because of Socialism".@SatyrService

@soar2newhighs The idea is that with automation taking jobs that U.I. would ease the burden of the few do nothings while filling the basic needs of people who are creative and.productive to seek out their own niches and fill jobs that are needed, but don't quite pay enough to do more than eat on.

To free people's ambition and work power from having to meet basic needs at dead end jobs. That's the idea anyway.
I respectfully disagree, but your input in appreciated. EOD.@MethDozer

I teeder on the fence with that one. On one side the principle is that no.one is owed anything for nothing and it doesn't sit well with me. On the other hand it might make for less of burden in reality on the working public.
The public pays for them either way, so it does have a streamline effect of less expensive bureaucracy.
