Am I the only one?

I never know how to respond to someone that says “What’s up” I literally don’t understand the respond people expect. Is it like a way of saying, how are you? I suppose it is, but then again it sounds weird if I say ‘good’ because the question itself sounds more of a literal subject, and I can’t help but want to respond “The sky” or “The roof” it just makes no sense to me. I would much appreciate it if people would just ask “How are you” it’s an easier question. I kinda hate th phrase, just saying. 😂 Oh my god, I feel dumb by saying this. Please tell me someone else feels the same way?

You're fine, it's awkward language. Correct response:

"Not much, you?"

However, if something IS up then you are welcome to discuss it.

"Going to class, hoping I can get an extension on that essay."

"My life is a trainwreck of nausea-inducing anxiety and I'm terrified even speaking to you."

"Got this jello, it's pretty great."
