I don't think you should have to stand, but it is disrespectful towards a the soldiers that have lived and fought and died for this country.

@Lostpoet I believe that kneeling (even in protest of social in justice) is still a respectful way to protest given the link to the soldiers that have fought and died for the United States.
I think it would be disrespectful if they just fucked off and did whatever while the anthem was playing, completely ignoring the song and the flag.

@WesTheHuman But they aren't protesting against the soldiers. They are protesting, well, I forget what they are protesting. But, I do think everyone has a right to protest and the soldiers fought for that right. And I also think they should find a diferent way to protest because it is disrespectful, but it shouldn't be inforced.

@Lostpoet I never said they were protesting the soldiers.. they're protesting social injustice.
I was saying given the link between the anthem/flag and the soldiers, kneeling instead of standing is a good way to protest while still showing respect to the soldiers.
Throughout history, kneeling has always been a sign of respect and pledging ones loyalty. They're not standing for the inequality and injustice of American society, but still kneeling for those who have served.

@WesTheHuman I think both ways are disrespectful, fucking around and kneeling.

@WesTheHuman oh, ok.
