@Fernie First we need a proper Viking prayer. Bow your head.

Gætir guðir Ásgarðar leiða þig til hliðanna.

Á ferð þinni, má það vera öruggt og fyllt með ljósi. Getur þú fundið styrk frá Þórr í myrkustu klukkustundum þínum. Geturðu fundið visku frá Óðni í óreiðu. Getur þú fundið fegurð og varanleg skuldabréf frá Freɪə og Freyr.

Gæti vefurinn þinn verið spunninn vel með það sem gerir þig sterkari, hamingjusamur og vitur.

Og mega guðirnir alltaf líta á þig með góðri náð.

My PC. First, it was just a whim, but I didn't want to lose the skills I learned in college and my job. Now, my landlord wants everything online, so I have no choice there. And it's much easier ordering groceries online than going through the aisles and having it delivered. I had a "glitch" recently, and until it was fixed, I felt adrift.
LyricalOne · F
@MaryJanine I went so long before going online. Now I can’t imagine life without it!
MaryJanine · 70-79, F
I imagine quite a few people who switched to online from longhand feel that way, too. My one brother (who uses a computer to this day) said at first I didn't NEED to have one, and I told him for the above reasons, I needed one.(He controls my finances from the sale of our childhood home, you understand, and everytime I want something out of the ordinary, I have to go through R and I to get what I want/need.) But seriously, it's much easier to go online, especially if I need something from my landlord, then call and leave a message that no one calls you back on, or,worse, you don't have their number to contact them.

Besides the obvious things necessary to survive, I have an addiction to Q-tips. Strange but true.
@LyricalOne Yeah, I watch that one too occasionally. I seriously doubt some of the really weird ones.. Like the woman who was in love with a roller coaster. Too insane.

My sister-in-law can't have that because of the medicines she's on and she's crabbing about that. I told my brother to buy her one of those fancy Welch's grape juice, give her a glass and tell her to close her eyes and pretend.
MaryJanine · 70-79, F
'Preciate your sympathy, but she can be a PAIN. I am nice to her because she is married to my baby brother, but there are times nothing you do makes her happy. The doctor suggested (and I have to agree) that medicine can alter the taste of things you eat or drink, and even something you loved before surgery and medicine can "turn" on you. She is thirteen years my junior, and if she would stop smoking (she's like a chimney)maybe the medicine wouldn't be necessary. Oh, well...such is the life of a elf.
Brianthesnail · 56-60, M
@MaryJanine elf?

Well. If it's any help, I used to smoke 20 a day for close to 20 yrs. I quit on maybe the eleventh try - thanks to yoga. And I haven't smoked in18 yrs.
Now, if I would have to give up wine. . . . .I do t believe I could
MaryJanine · 70-79, F
Yes, elf..it's better than saying "nosy sister-in-law". There are times when my brother is on the phone (not only with me,either) and she's yelling something in the background...whether or not it's relating to the subject.

I'm glad yoga worked for you on smoking. Her doctor has recommended that she quit and my brother and her son have both tried to get her to stop(I stay out of the discussion because both my parents were heavy smokers until their hearts were suffering because of all that nicotine and they each ended up in the hospital for different reasons and different times). Anyway, the landlord has gotten after her for not keeping the blinds clean from all that puffing - more than once - and I am embarrassed for my nephew when he has smoking friends over and she cadges a couple off THEM! Not politely, either...she asks outright and never offers to return the favor. She tried the patches after the times she was in the hospital (twice) and then when she finished, she figured it was "too expensive" to go that route. I'm glad I never took it up, and neither of my brothers did. I would see my older stepsister with an occasional one after she got married, and then when she was pregnant, she stopped, too.

We all have our vices. Mine is Diet Coke - and my other brother says it's "too expensive" and he doesn't like the taste. Well, I pay for it, not him.

Enjoy your wine, my friend...and have a good holiday weekend.
