Let's get serious for a second

GMO - good or bad? Elaborate.

I have my view on this, but I'm curious about general opinion.

Good, just on the merit that it makes it possible to provide a sustainable source of food to people that would otherwise lack access to nutrient-rich produce (whether through exports or the option to grow it themselves). The ability to grow hearty, disease-resistant crops in marginal environments is important. GM food has to meet the same requirements as any other food does. It's safe.

Good. We gotta feed people. The companies that use them are often sacks of bastards, but that's more about capitalism than it is about GMOs as a means to grow food.

I buy organic and avoid it but I don't think it is nearly as bad as the scare doctors make it out to be

They're fine in that they're not really dangerous. A lot of what we eat currently is GMO. How else do you think we got 97 varieties of apples? However, the GMO process often results in a lesser product. Tomatoes don't taste nearly as good as they used to, and the same goes for a lot of fruit and vegetables. Still, GMO products tend to be disease resistant and do no harm to the human body.

Useful. It's the future.

There's no way we can sustain 9 or 10 billion population within a decade without genetically modified seeds
Good. GMO’s can do many great things for humanity.
