When my mother was terminally ill, she begged us not to let her go into a nursing home. So I looked after her, although we had a carer and a nurse come in each day to check on how she was. She wanted the comfort of dying in her own familiar home with her own family around and she got her wish. My father is elderly and would think differently, I know. But I would like the same for him if the inevitable happened. Perhaps men have too many responsibilities or commitments to look after elderly parents, but I'm sure there are many who do. But maybe women are those who care the most because it's in us to?
