Why do appliances have an eco setting?

Surely if we there is a setting better for the world that should be our only option?

Sadly most people don't care about that so they would not buy the appliance at all if it only had eco cycles.

@SW-User but if it only had one cycle and not the three like ours does, they don't really have a choice.
