Why do people ask about marriage at job interviews? :/

Probably because it could affect your performance. some jobs would require one to travel a lot then marriage and the marital status of a person could be a factor. There are several reasons why they ask about it but mostly the reason would depend on the question(s) they asked

@summersun it wasn't about traveling or work related. He said 'people from my community get married at 22'

@SW-User as I've said, the way you respond could be a determining factor for them. I just cited an example. In the situation that you provided, your response could give them a better understanding about who you are, like if you answer them because I am not yet prepared to settle down and I don't want to raise a family unprepared. Your answer alone could give them an idea about the kind of person you are and how you handle things.
