Do boys need

A male influence? Personally I've never really had one, just my mum, stepmother and sister in the house then the majority of my teachers have been women, and even some of my coaches have been women. I don't think it's ever negatively impacted me though, what are your thoughts?

I volunteer as an adult mentor for boys who do not have a dad or strong male role model in their lives. Many are at-risk and living with grandparents or relatives. So I think it makes a difference, but also depends on the family situation and what each kid has been through. I have had many male mentors both as a kid and especially in my professional life. Ironically one of my best mentors was a 6th grade female teacher. She gave me confidence and taught me skills I still use today.
