Does your need to be part of a group trump your right to be an individual?

Pertinent question in a society which now prioritizes group thinking over critical thinking.

I'll always be a part of a group/community, due to my ethnicity and culture but that doesn't mean I have to be like everyone else nor do I want to be.

I think people forget they can belong or identify with a group and still be an individual.

Here's a comic analogy (because i like comics) Batman is a part of the justice league, that doesn't mean he has to go with everything they do and he stops being batman.

@5thApprentice Why not be part of a group based on your values? Wouldn't that make a little more sense rather than the obvious culture or race.

@therighttothink50 Yeah and that too of course. You can belong to more than one group.
