Both can have long term repercussions, but the first paints a target on your back, so it can put you in a more precarious position.

PS: The first [i]can[/i] hurt more, but shouldn't stop you from speaking out - sometimes that's the only way to make things better. Choose the battles worth fighting, and ignore the senseless skirmishes.
