Is USAA Banking Required For Military Members?

I feel like it's not but I swear I've heard it is before? Anyways I'm shipping to basic on April 10th and just wondering if it's required? Also what benefits do you get with USAA that other banks don't offer? Currently I'm with Wells Fargo and I feel like I should move to USAA due to it being just for military members retired and active and that they'd be a lot easier to bank with since all they do is deal with military members.

No, not required, for banking I personally prefer a credit union, but for car insurance I don't think anyone can beat USAA. I went with different home owners insurance, but USAA for renters before buying.

It is a really good company with great services, if best for you and your needs it isn't for me to say but I can not imagine anyone saying you don't have a choice.

Not a fan at all for Wells Fargo.
USAA offers home, renters and auto insurance at competitive rates. They also have banking. It is open to military members and their families.

It is a good deal, but not required.

No it is not required but you will be required to have a bank account for direct deposit. USAA is a decent organization and often their insurance is quite reasonably priced but do some research and find a bank that you like.

No. Guys like switching banks as some accommodate military members. Your best bet is to simply do your own research.

I would ask your recruiter

Don't ask your recruiter about anything except the process of joining the military. Recruiters have a specific job and are quite good at it. Their job is to recruit you. @Vgore0304

@rhouse I trust my recruiter about his opinions on things. I'm enlisting CG and my recruiter has been straight with me from the start. He even reminds me often that I can still back out before I swear in a second time and that no one will look down on me for it. I agree most recruiters give you bs but I think Coast Guard is an exception.
We didn’t use it when my hubby was active duty.
