Have you ever hitch hiked? did it take long to get picked up?

I may have to hitch hike today to get home and am very nervous

Back in the late-60s early-70s, I hitchhiked all over America. It was a great way to travel. Not now. America is a violent scary place now. I'd rather just walk.
