The square of any number, will always be positive. That's why there are no negative square roots.

Except that to explain some stuff we observe in nature, like radio waves one must accept the existence of complex numbers which have a real part and an imaginary part

This imaginary part is a real number multiplied by the number "i": the square root of -1 馃槷

it boggles the mind. "i" is called of course "The imaginary number".
